About

The Great Adventure Lab is an after-school science enrichment program offering our classes in 50+ schools in the D.C. area. We’ve taught thousands of kids how to write their first robotics programs or video game programs (or both!). We also teach science, engineering, electronics...and more! We do it all with SMALL class sizes with a student to adult ratio of 7:1 or better. Our goal is to make science, technology, engineering, and mathematics irresistibly FUN for the next generation.

We are an LLC based in Silver Spring, MD. We are fully insured and our instructors have passed background checks including FBI and state fingerprinting.


Here are mini-descriptions of our offerings.  Please see classes for complete details, including photos!  Room numbers TBD. Instructor will send welcome email several days before class.

Intro to Robotics B, Grades 1-2

Mondays 3:30-4:30pm

 Seven meetings: Feb 1, 8, 22, 29, Mar 7, 14, 21

Intro to Robotics A and B are two independent classes. Same curriculum, different projects.  Take one or both in any order!

 

Here’s a fun introduction to the world of robotics and mechanical engineering, designed especially for grades 1 and 2

We’ll build and program crawlerbots, windmills, planes … and more!

 

Areas of Exploration: Robotics, Programming, Mechanical Engineering

 

Class Format: Seven 60-min. meetings, once per week.

 

Tuition: $125 tuition per student, min 11 / max 12 students, 1 instructor, 1 aide.  Parent aide for full class gets free tuition.  

 


 

Lego Robotics B, Grades 2 - 4

Wednesdays 3:30-4:30pm

 Eight meetings: Jan 27, Feb 3, 10, 17, 24, Mar 2, 9, 16


Lego Robotics A and B are two independent classes. Same curriculum, different projects.  Take one or both in any order!

 

Learn to build and program Lego Robots, using gears, levers, sensors and software! Start out with suggested programs, then learn to troubleshoot and design your own!


Areas of Exploration: Robotics, Programming, Logic.

 

Class Format: Seven 60-min. meetings, once per week.

Robo Challenge Contraptions, Grades 4 -5

Mondays 3:30-4:30pm

Seven meetings: Feb 1, 8, 22, 29, Mar 7, 14, 21



 

Robo Challenge Contraptions follows the same format as Robo Challenge Machines, but with different projects including a venus fly trap, a marble counter and a marble shooting soccer game!  


Areas of Exploration: Independent Problem Solving, Robotics, Programming, Logic, Mechanical Engineering.


Class Format:  Seven 60-min. meetings, once per week.
